I haven't posted in a long time but recently started working on my concepts again.  I just came across this website http://container4home.com/
and maybe you guys have discussed it but just the intro on the website trying to sell something made me angry.  Claims about the ease of construction, acceptance, etc.  are over the top and the ones regarding the cost are either out and out lies or these people are dreamers.  It makes me angry because I believe there is a real possibility that IBUs will be a much larger though still niche market and people who bite for such claims and then find out the truth will be turned off.

Perhaps the author of this stuff will read this here and let me challenge them with real #'s and facts.

Aloha Bob,
I agree with you that the offering from these folks looks a little suspect.  Anyone who has spent as much time thinking about containers has gone well past most of the subjects that this product covers.  I'd like to see someone come up with engineering drawings of mechanical pieces to join containers together... analysis of loss of rigidity when a wall is removed...creative and inexpensive ways of insulating exterior walls...post and beam kits that will support opened areas...corner hardware to support second levels of containters that are not stacked in the typical way...manufacturers of custom sized windows and doors that will drop into the end openings of a container...plumbing and electrical kits to provide baseboard type heat...analysis of cantilevers of second level containers...and most of all, the kind of compelling back-up material needed to convince a reticent building inspection department that we're not completely loony-tunes.

Many years ago I was a part of a company that sold kit cars.  I believe the same sort of design, engineering and marketing challenges confront someone who proposes to provide instructions on how to build a container house.

Come on guys.  Show us a few houses that you've built before you tell us how to do it.

what a bunch of crap that website is.  This is the equivalent of the emails I get telling me that the Bank of Ghana is ready to send me 25million dollars if I send them my account information!  No projects, no names and no address.  If anyone purchases this crock of info please contact me about purchasing a bridge in Brooklyn, I can get you a great deal on it.  Bunch of crack heads!
