I have booked tickets for Orlando. My family is heading back thursday 31March and I am staying for Fri, Sat, and Sun in order to get down to Tampa. So I am available either Thurs (I drop them at the airport 7:30 and can head straight to Tampa), or Friday, or Saturday which won't make any sense if nothing is going on in the factory.
So lets try for Thu March 31 or Fri Apr 1st.
So who can be there?

Thursday sounds fine - I had not thought about staying overnight in Tampa. It does not make any sense to drive down twice though.
What were you thoughts about how we will spend the time David - I had not thought about a second day.

My thoughts come from a perspective of a manufacturer. These thoughts will grow and change as time goes by but here goes. Speaking in generalities, we in manufacturing need to adhere to what little codes exist for ISBU and implement the frame work for what codification will be coming. further we need to be in a position to participate educating the archs/engs/builders in their features, bennys, and use. As Michael so aptly states, "the rules and tools".
But more importantly, as we prefab our portion of the ISBU system we as manufacturers need to make sure we are doing utmost to give you a ready to use module, regardless of configurations, that meets your needs. You as architects are the front line of this building materials image to the customer. Whether that customer be a housing authority seeking ultra affordable sustainable housing or a highend one off. If at the end of the day we are turning out what we as manufacturers want rather than a system you desire to engage, then I have wasted your time. So i genuinely hope to gather the types of arrangements you see, share with you the ones we see.
Also there is the opportunity to discuss the appearance or prom dress as some say.
The first steps in Rules and Tools.

Here's hoping you have a productive conference... one more feeble request... raise the roof from standard storage containers... really, these things give me claustrophobia at 8', and some relatives will barely have clearance.
Anyway, good luck!

David and I spoke a little about goals earlier. The gist is we should strive to cover some big issue topics, and some detail issue topics. David is thinking macro - about big picture as he described above. I am pretty focused on micro issues right now, details and how these would come together. So there should be a combo of technical dialog as well as strategic thinking that would happen.
Which brings me to who should come - I really spoke out of turn saying "who's coming". We really need to have this be a meeting of designers and developers willing to act on building with containers (which I believe following this meeting we are going ditch the term "container" and adopt David's ISBU). Mark and I are all I know right now, but I'd like to see us have a half dozen or more. So if you are a designer reading this - come to the meeting. If you are a potential homeowner of an ISBU house then point your architect or designer at this and urge them to come. Know a developer - tell them about it.
I am going to think about my own agenda for what I hope to learn about or discuss. If everybody would do that perhaps we could form an agenda in advance.

just to say it..."developer" as defined by cities and such is anyone "developing" even one lot on one street in order build something on that lot, so...a potential homeowner of an isbu house=developer. i learned this the hard way when i was told by the city of Atlantic Beach that it was the "developer's" responsibility to have the road paved in order to build on the lot i had put a binder fee on. i would have been considered the developer. again, this is just to say it, because it will take a few of this type of "developer" to get this isbu thing underway, don't you think?

I was just wondering how the meeting went. I am in Tampa, and wanted to reply to Greg but before I knew it he had posted that he was already back from the meeting (on livemodern).

It went very well. We were not able to coordinate a meeting time, so I was the only guest that day - good for me as I had David's full attention, bad for David as now he is going to make multiple trips.
Briefly, I got a tour of their facility in Tampa - TAW has multiple locations but the place in Tampa where I visited is where they work with the containers. I saw some things they have done and were in progress with ISO based units as well as other enclosures. David also gave me a detailed walk through/crawl over of a 40ft high cube and a 20ft standard explaining how they are put together, why certain details are the way they are. I've been on and around them before but not with the informed narritive that David provided. He also gave me more background and info about the house they built in Charleston.
